Deeper the Blue 2011

Deeper the Blue will be Belinda's first solo show at Niagara Galleries in Melbourne. The majority of the work will be paintings and drawings on board. This latest series remains connected to the water but a return of an old motif - the web drawings from her graduate years have reappeared. This strange and wonderful return creates an interesting edge to otherwise tranquil surrounds. An excellent catalogue essay by Glenn Barkley, curator from the MCA accompanies the show. Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt. Melbourne Art Fair

2008 solo show at the Melbourne Art Fair for Arthouse Gallery, Sydney. The tenuous notion of balance, the potential for both creation and destruction, hope and despair pervade this latest work. These fluid and delicately crafted images combine a complex array of both printmaking, painting, drawing and sculptural techniques. Images of innocence, children playing and flying kites and lotus flowers, are juxtaposed against disintegrating landscapes and weapons of destruction. Pictorial elements fuse with patternation and texture, foreground and background jostle for prominence. For images of the making of the bronze sculpture go to PROJECTS page.

Backwards-Forwards

In late 2007 Belinda undertook a month long artist in residency at the Fremantle Art Centre, Western Australia. The resulting works were exhibited at the Centre in December/January 2008. Backwards-Forwards was an ambitious room installation that reflected on past and present wars, the security and seduction of facade and the yearning for history to stop repeating itself. A combination of printmaking, painting, gold leafing and flocking techniques were used to make the work. To read more about the work go to TEXT page for an insightful interview with curator Jasmin Stephens and Belinda. To see the work in progress go to PROJECTS page.
